As a young boy, Bruce Wayne's parents were brutally murdered before his eyes. Swearing on their graves that no innocent should ever suffer the pain he has endured, Bruce has spent his life in pursuit of physical and mental perfection in order to wage an unrelenting war on crime. Believing criminals to be a cowardly and superstitious lot, Bruce wears the image of the bat in order to strike terror into their hearts.
